Meno Mix Tape Vol. 5 Muscle Matters

Meno Tip - Muscle Matters

Building muscle in midlife isn’t just important—it’s a total game-ChangeHER for women.

One of the things I love most about lifting weights is the sense of independence it gives me. Just last week, on two separate occasions, I had to carry some heavy items. People around me kept offering to help and were surprised when I confidently said, “Thanks, but I’ve got it.” And I really did. That feeling of strength—of being capable—is incredibly empowering. To all my Broadway-loving friends — this had me singing 'I Can Do That' from A Chorus Line.

As we move through perimenopause and menopause, hormonal shifts (looking at you, estrogen!) can speed up muscle loss and weaken bone health. But here’s the good news: strength training is like a secret superpower. It helps us maintain lean muscle, supports our joints, fires up our metabolism, and keeps our bones strong. It also improves balance, posture, and gives our mood a solid lift. Most of all, it helps us feel strong, energized, and confident in our bodies during this powerful stage of life. Midlife muscles? Yes, please!

If you are looking to begin strength training and feel overwhelmed by getting started, let’s chat. I’d love to help you get started.

Quote of the Week

You want to be the oldest person in the weight room, not the youngest person in assisted care.

Resource/Media Recommendation

One of my new favorite resources is The Tamsen Show. In this podcast episode, Tamsen interviews Triple Board-Certified Endocrinologist and Belly Fat Expert Dr. Rocio Salas-Whalen for a conversation about GLP-1’s for belly fat. Conversations around this topic are essential. It is important for women to be informed before making choices to use medications.

My Mix

Have you ever found yourself caught in that internal debate about starting a workout? Whether it’s beginning a brand-new exercise routine or simply lacing up your shoes for a walk or heading to the gym, that first step can often feel like the hardest. But more often than not, once we get moving, we’re glad we did. We feel better, our energy picks up, and our mood usually improves too.

For me, music plays a huge role in getting motivated. The right song can be the push I need to get out the door—or the boost that lifts me out of an afternoon slump.

This week’s playlist, Gotta Get Going, is a mix of tracks that help me get moving and shake off that sluggish feeling. I hope it inspires you to get going too—whether you're working out, walking, or just looking for a mood boost.

Wishing you a wonderful start to the week—and a happy June!

To all the parents juggling a whirlwind of end-of-year school activities, I'm sending you love and a wave of calming energy. You’re in the home stretch—hang in there! And to those celebrating a graduation in the coming days, I'm sending you a big, heartfelt hug.

XO,

Stephanie
